Marico Marine has more than 20 years of experience in providing world-class consultancy services to the marine, ports, shipping and offshore renewable industries. Marico's personnel combine extensive analytical and data management expertise with proven marine judgement and experience and are able to deploy the skills necessary to achieve a successful and valued outcome.

John Riding MEng CEng FIMarEST MCMS MRINA

Managing Director

John Riding is Managing Director of Marico Marine. A Marine Consultant with a long track record of Navigational and Harbour Safety Risk Management Projects on a worldwide basis, John is a recognised expert in the subject of marine risk management with 40 years' overall experience in the maritime transport sector.

Gill Riding

Director - Administration

Gill is the Administration Director for Marico, across both its Offices.  She has had an active role in the company since its inception in 1999 and set up the administration of both the UK and NZ offices.  She is responsible for the day to day management of the NZ office, assisting with everything from project management, tendering and client interface, as well as managing accounts.  She oversees the Marico Group admin and links with Jane and Shirley in the UK. 

Prior to Marico, Gill had a background working with shipping companies and shipbuilders.  She also spent a number of years at sea with John, during his time in the Merchant Navy. 

Free time is spent enjoying the Kiwi lifestyle, rugby and wine. One day she hopes to enjoy gardening too!

André Cocuccio BEng MSc CMarTech FIMarEST

UK Director

André Cocuccio is Marico's UK Director with over 20 years’ professional maritime experience across both the public and private sectors. Previously the Director of Navigation Safety at the UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), André has a strong maritime background linked to realising national maritime strategies through the delivery of large-scale private and public sector-funded, maritime programmes and initiatives.

William Heaps BSc CMarSci FIMarEST FHydSoc

Principal Consultant

William is a Principal Consultant and Chartered Marine Scientist, with extensive marine and hydrographic experience including the development of marine safety management systems, monthly reporting for Harbour Authority Boards, auditing, incident investigation, and is currently the Designated Person for 11 organisations, encompassing more than 30 individual port locations in the UK. William has particular experience in the field of port and harbour conservancy, including hydrography, dredging and all aspects of marine licensing.

William is (now) an occasional dinghy sailor who enjoys outdoor activities including walking, geocaching, canoeing, gardening and tending the allotment. Whenever possible he indulges in his love of travel – making regular use of a well-loved camper van for trips away with his wife.

David Foster MBE MRIN

Principal Consultant

David is a very experienced and long-term Harbour Master and port manager, with over 13 years’ experience as Harbour Master at the Port of London Authority and Portsmouth. He has a varied maritime and management background gained at sea and ashore in the Royal Navy. David has a unique and extensive experience of maritime consultancy as he has acted as both a client and a consultant. David is currently the PMSC Designated Person for five organisations, covering more than 30 ports or harbours.

David is a very active member of Itchenor Sailing Club, racing XODs and cruising his own boat with his family.  He is on the committee of the Chichester Harbour Federation.  David also is a keen gardener, walker and ring master of seven grandchildren.

Paul Brown MNI

Principal Consultant

Paul is a Principal Consultant based in South Devon providing mariner expertise including PMSC auditing, navigation simulation, expert witness and navigation risk assessment, and is the Marico and UK representative for sales and training for Navicom Portable Pilot Units. Paul is the retained authorised pilot for the Devon ports of Bideford, Appledore and Tor Bay. Paul previously served as the Harbour Master, General Manager Operations and as a Class 1 Pilot for the Port of Dover, one of the busiest ports in the UK.

 

Jim Chapman CMMar AFNI MICS

Principal Consultant

Jim is a Chartered Master Mariner and ex-Shipmaster possessing Subject Matter Expertise and considerable experience with regards to marine and technical matters, particularly those relating to Liquid Petroleum LPG and LNG operations, ISM compliance and HSSEQ. He has excellent knowledge of Marine Assurance for projects involving erection and upgrading marine berths, Underwater Ship Husbandry Diving Activities and Ship To Ship (STS) transhipment operations. 

In his spare time, Jim enjoys riding motorcycles, walking his two Alaskan Malamutes and Husky in the Surrey Hills and scuba diving.

 
 

Ian Hugo AFNI 

Principal Consultant

Ian Hugo is a Principal Consultant for Marico Marine. As a respected Master Mariner and collaborative marine professional with a career and focus in the maritime world, afloat and ashore, Ian Hugo has seen delivery in frequently difficult and complex environments.  Engendering client and staff confidence, he has grown business by building on a reputation of operational excellence centred on the Port Marine Safety Code, supporting legislation of the various codes and best practice. An experienced risk assessor, having undertaken a wide variety of Navigation Risk Assessments in the UK and abroad, he has delivered a balance between the need for safety and the commercial pressures.  Commercially astute, technically savvy Ian has grown sustainable businesses based on the teams he has trained and mentored.  Using a structured, data driven and project approach he turns complexity into the deliverable simplicity using finely balanced judgement in dealing with uncertainty and risk.

 

 

Stephanie Gilbert BA (Hons) MSc CSci CMarSci MIMarEST FRGS

Principal Consultant

Stephanie is a Principal Consultant and qualified Project Manager at Marico and is the primary UK contact for HAZMAN II, the company’s internationally renowned port and marine risk management system, including development, client implementation and training.

Stephanie's experience covers project management, GIS, risk assessment and vessel traffic analysis and applies these competencies to a variety of consultancy projects including navigation risk assessments and vessel traffic surveys.

Ryan Horrocks BSc AMIMarEST

Senior Consultant

Ryan is a senior consultant proficient in spatial and data analysis, and report writing. Ryan graduated from the University of Hull with a first class degree in Marine Biology BSc. Since starting at Marico, Ryan has gained valuable experience in a range of different sectors including offshore wind, oil and gas, and ports and harbours. He has joined us to augment our marine data and GIS capability and to support our reporting efforts.

Outside of work, Ryan enjoys swimming, hiking, musical theatre, and water sports.

 

Lewis Seymour-Pugh BSc AMIMarEST

Consultant

Lewis is a consultant within Marico Marine's team. Holding key skills in GIS and vessel traffic analysis, he has worked on harbour, environmental and renewable projects. Lewis graduated with a first-class degree in Marine Biology from the University of Hull. He holds a RYA powerboat level 2 licence and also has experience with sailboats. He hopes to help Marico move forward in the world of maritime expertise.

 

Outside of work Lewis enjoys football, fishing and cycling.

 

Martin Harvey

Innovation and VTS Service Delivery Manager

Martin is a Lead Project Manager responsible for delivering over 40 Vessel Traffic and surveillance systems successfully over the last 30 years. Martin has an engineering design responsibility to delivering systems which exceed requirement specifications with the ability to innovate and improve hardware and software features and functions.


Mike Robins

Technical Support Engineer

Mike has over twenty years of experience in the electronics industry, with the last eleven specialising in marine electronics. He has extensive knowledge of Automatic Identification System (AIS), the associated messages and international standards, particularly relating to Class A, Class B and AIS AtoN, and in-depth understanding of NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 interfacing, and radio propagation and performance of GPS and VHF antennas.

Shirley Barnet MCIL

Administrator

Shirley joined Marico Marine as Administrator in 2012.  She loves her wide and varied role and is responsible, among other things, for the smooth running of the office, managing the project database,  quality assurance, assisting with tenders and dealing with company accreditations.  She has a linguistic background, is a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and has spent 5 years working in continental Europe.

Outside the office, Shirley is a keen hillwalker, horse-rider and cyclist and is involved in various language clubs.
